Extraordinary tour with the chateau’s castle manager will take you not only into untraditional places but also into rooms that are normally inaccessible. On the ground floor you’ll look into the historical plans and architectural designs of the chateau’s complex and other technologically interesting buildings in Slatiňany and its surroundings. In the basement, you’ll see the utility parts of the exposition – the ice cellar, kitchen or the boiling room from 1924 or the window well with renaissance sgraffito. After that you’ll go upstairs into the attic located under the beams of baroque roof frame and into the tower, down the stairs, through the historical checkroom and dry-cleaning room with built-in wardrobe of Prince Ferdinand, down the spiral staircase into big bathroom where you’ll learn about the level of hygiene at the turn of the 20th century. In the end, you’ll enter the loggia and newly restored 50 meters long balcony at the west and south wings.
When we furnish new flat or when we renovate the old one, we’re looking for modern housing or the newest technological novelties. But was it always like this? Especially on a chateau? Absolutely! And there is no better place where to discover this than the Slatiňany chateau. Serving as a beloved home it got modernized at the end of the 19th century by Franz Josef, Prince of Auersperg. He loved modern technologies so he installed in the water pipes and water line for seven bathrooms and ten toilets. In 1890 he installed electric wiring, central heating system, he modernized the kitchen and built a dumbwaiter. In 1891 he had a telephone and in 1906 even an automobile… Make sure for yourself that living in the Slatiňany chateau was more comfortable than you would have guessed.
